What is Zen-Shiatsu?

Zen-Shiatsu in Japanese literally translated is finger pressure. Zen-Shiatsu is a Japanese style of massage which relieves stress, aches and pains, strengthens your immune system and keeps you emotionally balanced.

Zen-Shiatsu Massage uses light to deep pressure on the meridian lines or nerve energy lines running throughout the body. Zen Shiatsu feels wonderful as it also incorporates stretching and joint opening to facilitate more energy movement.

When we are stressed or have had some injury, muscles tighten and restrict the flow of chi energy. The purpose of shiatsu is to get your energy moving again and balance its movement promoting relaxation and health.

Zen Shiatsu is a great stress reliever. You will feel relaxed as muscle tension fades and leaves you with a sense of greater wellbeing after the session.

Zen Shiatsu is great for relaxation, muscle pain and tightness. Many conditions resulting from stress and tension respond well, like headaches, sciatica, fibromyalgia and muscle & joint pain.

History of Zen-Shiatsu

Zen Shiatsu is bodywork that was developed by Shizuto Masunaga to give current shiatsu a more meditative flow. His aim was to treat the whole meridian system not just certain acupressure points as do other styles of shiatsu. He incorporated the energetic philosophy of Chinese five element theory and diagnosis of the body’s energies or Chi. He also extended the traditional acupressure meridian system from current knowledge of the day.
